These face shields are made of transparent PVC and have an elastic fastener/headband. With a soft foam forehead pad, this durable face protection is for medical purposes. Face shields are intended for single use or multiple uses by the same user when properly disinfected in accordance with guidance provided by the CDC and EPA. 1. Are the KN95 respirators FDA authorized?

According to recent FDA and CDC guidance, healthcare providers are authorized to use certain non-NIOSH approved respirator masks during the COVID-19 public health emergency, when N95 masks are in short supply.

2. Which N95 replacement respirators are authorized by the FDA?

3. Why does the packaging for the FDA Authorized KN95s indicate that the respirators are "non-medical?"

KN95 is a Chinese product classification for respirator masks that meet the Chinese performance standard GB2626-2006 for respiratory protective equipment. GB2626-2006 is a non-medical standard. KN95 classification is similar to the the U.S. NIOSH N95 classification for air filtration, meaning that it filters at least 95% of airborne particles. Most N95 respirators are manufactured for use in industrial-type jobs and are also non-medical. As with the standard (non-medical) N95, certain KN95 respirator masks, including the Guangzhou Powecom Labor Insurance Supplies Co., LTD, are FDA authorized for use in healthcare settings by HCP during the COVID-19 public health emergency, in accordance with CDC guidance.
