The CDC Confirms that Wearing a Mask Helps Protect YOU!
Did you hear that just last week the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) emphasized recent research “that a mask protects the person who wears it.”
Previously, the CDC encouraged mask wearing because it prevents people who are infected with COVID-19 from spreading it to others. “But now we’re saying here’s another reason” to do it, noted Dr. John Brooks, chief medical officer for the CDC’s COVID-19 emergency response.
Research continues to show the benefits of universal mask wearing. A recent study from Japan found that masks block about 60% of the amount of virus that comes out of an infected person — and for an uninfected person, wearing a mask reduced the amount of virus inhaled by 37-50%. “When both people were wearing masks, the decline in virus particles reaching the second person was largest — close to 70%.” Real-world scenarios have shown the same.
